As the new Black Panther movie comes out November 11, many marvel fans are filled with joy and grief. After actor Chadwick Boesman’s death many are saying that it’s not the same without the original black panther, but it’s also introducing a new hero as a woman and a new culture into the movie. In August 2020, the actor Chadwick Boseman died in a silent battle with colon cancer. Many wondered how the black panther was going to continue without the original actor, many wondered who was going to replace him.  

 “I was at a point when I was like, I’m walking away from this business,'” said Coogler, a director, admits. ‘I didn’t know if I could make another movie period, let alone another Black Panther movie, because it hurt a lot.” Devan Coogler, a director, as well as many others, have long been inspired by the actor Chadwick Boseman. Inspiring Coogler to keep the Black Panther legacy alive. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a bittersweet epic that celebrates Boseman’s legacy while enlarging the universe he cherished. 

“Coogler and Marvel have said many times that they never considered recasting T’Challa with another actor. Instead, Coogler’s hope is that Wakanda Forever will carry on Boseman’s legacy by expanding it with an entirely new story.” 

“This movie will be closure for many and a new opening into another story for many as well,” said Mackenzie Cox (’23).  

This movie introduces a new hero carrying the mantle of black panther which appears to be a woman many think its Shuri taking over for her brother. After being the first marvel movie to finally have African Americans as leading roles and to show what South African culture is really about, they also decided to share this joy and introduced the Mexican culture into the movie too. This isn’t just a movie– it means a lot of things and to see how this industry has grown over time. 

“I’m excited and can’t wait to watch it; I hope it’s at least as excellent as the first one. I’m also ready to see the new characters, tribe, who will be appearing in it,” said Jordan Long(’23). 

It is undeniable that this movie will both be a labor of love and an aid for coping with loss.  

The production design, cinematography, and breathtaking action sequences all contribute to the magnificent, opulent, and mind-blowing graphics and will be even better on the bigger screen.
